Victory Isn't Just A Score

The youth sports program at the Y has four goals regardless of the skill level of each child:  skill improvement, knowledge growth, character development, and most importantly fun. Each instructional program is focused on giving children an equal opportunity to improve in game fundamentals, game knowledge, sportsmanship and teamwork, appropriate competition, while having fun.  Children are divided by combined age groups in each instructional program based on enrollment. We believe an important component of YMCA Youth Sports is the concept of fair play and respect for oneself, one's opponent and others involved in competition. Players, volunteer coaches, officials, and spectators share a responsibility for fair play and good sportsmanship. Good sportsmanship for the YMCA is encompassed by the concept of positive character development.

CHEER

Flag Football

This football program is designed for youth ages 3-10. The YMCA flag football program is geared toward those youth who want to learn how to play, brush up on flag football rules, tactics, flag football drills, and most importantly - HAVE FUN!

Through participation in practices and games, players learn sportsmanship, how to work as a team and also build quality relationships with players and coaches in the program.  Youth Flag Football is a recreational program designed for youngsters new to football as well as those not quite ready for tackle football.

Program Information:

  • Register: July 31 - September 22
  • Late Registration: September 23
    ($20 late registration fee will be applied)
  • Season: October 7 - November 4
  • Game Day: Saturday Mornings

Flag Football Cheerleaders

This cheerleading program is designed for girls ages 4-10. YMCA cheerleading offers girls the chance to get active and have some fun cheering during the Flag Football games. Cheerleaders will build self-confidence and self-esteem while developing social skills and healthy relationships with other girls.

Learn the fundamentals of cheerleading including basic motions, jumps, cheers and chants. Participants practice one day weekly and then take their skills to the field to cheer during the games on Saturday.

Program Information:

  • Register: July 31 - September 22
  • Late Registration: September 23
    ($20 late registration fee will be applied)
  • Season: October 7 - November 4
  • Cheer Practice: Mondays 6-7 pm

Indoor Soccer

This soccer program is designed for youth ages 3-10. The YMCA soccer program nurtures the potential of your child by emphasizing fun, skill development, sportsmanship, and teamwork in a positive environment. Our desire is that through sports, youth will find lifelong love for healthy activity and find ways to strengthen values, improve relationships, appreciate diversity, and develop leadership skills.

Through participation in practices and games, players learn sportsmanship, how to work as a team and also build quality relationships with players and coaches in the program.

Program Information:

  • Register: July 31 - November 10
  • Late Registration: November 11
    ($20 late registration fee will be applied)
  • Season: November 20 - December 18
  • Game Day: Mondays

Basketball Training

This program is designed for youth ages 8-17.  It is designed to enhance your child's skills and performance on the basketball court. Passing, shooting and defensive skills are strengthened and the importance of physical fitness and conditioning are stressed.

2017 Program Information:

Session 1: Mondays, September 4-25
6pm - 7pm  Ages 8-12
7pm - 8pm  Ages 13-17

Session 2: Mondays, October 2-23

Winter Basketball

This basketball program is designed for youth ages 3-13.  Youth basketball is an exciting sport combining team play and individual skills. YMCA youth basketball promises no tryouts, no getting cut and no bench-warmers! The YMCA utilizes volunteer coaches to focus on participation and fun!

Passing, shooting and defensive skills are strengthened and the importance of physical fitness and conditioning are stressed. While basic skills of the game are developed through practices and games, every child learns sportsmanship and values necessary to be successful in life.

Program Information:

  • Register: July 31 - January 5
  • Late Registration: January 6
    ($20 late registration fee will be applied)
  • Season: January 27 - March 3, 2018
  • Game Day: Saturday
  • All girls teams: Ages 5-15 years

Winter Basketball Cheerleaders

Karate

This program is designed for youth & adults ages 7 and up. Participants will learn balance, coordination, memory skills, safety skills, and team work. Benefits of martial arts practice in increased self confidence, improved self esteem, self control and increased physical fitness. Learn self defense tactics that are easy to learn and practical to execute in real life. Shorin Ryu Karate is the main focus of this class. Taekwondo and Ju Jitsu will also be explored.

Teen Basketball

This basketball program is designed for teens ages 14-17. More than just a game, sportsmanship and values are key components of this league. All girl teams are available, but if the girl's division doesn't make, all girls will be placed on a coed team.

No one tops our legacy. Did you know that Basketball was invented by the Y in 1891 at the International YMCA Training School? Dr. James Naismith was given the challenge of creating a game that could be played indoors during the cold winter months. Hanging simple peach baskets and using a soccer ball, Naismith created the game of basketball and wrote the first 13 rules of the game.

T-Ball/Coach Pitch Baseball

This baseball program is designed for youth ages 3-7. The YMCA T-Ball program teaches young players the fundamentals of the game. Players learn through baseball drills how to catch, throw, and bat in a fun team atmosphere.

The focus of our league is to have fun, meet new friends, and play in a non-competitive environment. Through positive coaching, practices and games, our young athletes build and refine skills while gaining self-confidence, sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership abilities as they grow in their abilities.

This program is designed for youth ages 5-12. During this week, we will focus on Tee-Ball, Baseball, Volleyball, Basketball and Soccer.

Skills are strengthened and the importance of physical fitness and conditioning are stressed. While introducing the fundamental skills of these sports, the participants will have a chance to continue improving their existing skills. Every child learns sportsmanship and values necessary to be successful in life.

  • Camp Hours: 9 am - 12 noon

Weight Room Orientations

The weight room is open to everyone, ages 7 and up.  For youth ages 7-14, they  must complete a strength training orientation with one of our Health and Wellness staff. Our staff can help you get off to a great start by teaching you how to correctly use the equipment in the weight room. This orientation is mandatory for all members ages 7-14 who wish to use the weight room. After completion of the training, youth ages 7-11 must be accompanied by an adult every time they enter the weight room until they reach the age of 12 years.
